To live as a North-African in the west is to internalize the hate people express at all times. I never spoke of my mother’s piety because I was always afraid of the repercussions on me, socially. I will not try to convince anyone that she is an amazing human, but I want to offer this picture of me, my sister and my mother in a BC ferry this summer, as a sneak peek into our humanity, three muslim women playing, laughing and loving.
